I am having a few small issues with my honey.... Let me start by saying,,,, when I make a cake, I make a mess. But before somenoe comes to my home to pick up their cake I like for it to look like there was nothing ever made in my kitchen. He thinks I am going overboard and that anyone walking in would understand icing bowls ect. I think I am trying to run a good business. Am I going overboard? Thanks for any feed back on this!

Jeez no! I clean the whole house! I'm paranoid though - no-one has ever glanced in my kitchen's direction, and most of the houses that I've delivered cakes to are much more disorganised/messy than mine!

I do the same thing! I don't want someone coming into my kitchen and think that my home is not clean. Afterall, you just prepared something that they are going to eat. They aren't usually in your home so they don't know if you are clean or not. I make sure everyhing is put away, wiped down, swept, etc. I make a huge mess so I don't want anyone in my kitchen until it is clean.

no you're not, If I went to pick up a cake from somebody's house I would expect to find a clean kitchen so that's why I over clean mine when a client is coming. and there are times when the client pays more attention to the decorations and fresh flowers in my house than the actual cake. besides you're the one who's cleaning anyway..

Oh no not at all. I'm the same way. If someone is to collect a cake I usually give them a time that is at least half an hour later so that I can clean up the kitchen. Lucky for me my DH feels the same way and will even help to tidy up. I think appearances do play a part especially when it's food related. If I went to a restuarant and it was untidy, I don't think I would eat there.

It can never be too clean. I always tell my family that no one wants to get a cake from your messy kitchen or house.

I have a shop, and I am anal about keeping my work area clean. I keep all the dishes washed, so that I am not stuck at the end with all of them. Since I don't have to worry about the house thing, I do want it neat, and clean when customers come in. I have an area just for conference and pick-up. I do not let customers in the kitchen areas, that is for workers only. I do have a story though. My daughter lives about 150 miles from me, so we can always get together when she needs something. One of the gals that works for one of my suppliers, decorates on the side, at her home. She has been decorating for years, and the work I have seen is good. I got her phone number and told her my daughter would be calling her for a baby shower cake. She lives in the same town so it was very convienent for my daughter. Anyway, my daughter goes to pick up the cake at this gals house and she was flabber gasted at the disarray in her home, not only that, her DH was sitting in a lounge chair with no shirt on, smoking and watching sports. She stepped into the kitchen and it looked like a tornado hit, filthy, cluttered and reaked of smoke. The gal still had her hair up in rollers. My daughter is a clean freak, so needless to say she was shocked. She paid for the order, but called me to let me know about this gal, naturally I had no idea she was this way. She ended up going somewhere else to get a cake, she was afraid to eat the one she picked up. I never said a word to this gal, as I still order from this company, but how could anyone, do business this way? I ended up giving my daughter back the money she spent, just felt like I was responsible for the situation.
