I'm wanting to do two 2" layers of a 12" round on bottom, then a single
3" layer of 8" round on top for a birthday cake. I've never done this. Do I need dowels in the 12" so the 8" won't sink? Any tips are greatly appreciated!

TIA!

My motto is...when in doubt, dowel! icon_smile.gif Yes, if it were me, I would, just to be on the safe side.

I have done this with 2" cakes and it worked fine without dowelling. How dense are your cakes going to be? It would make a difference.

I did it with my cake in my photos of the pink textured bow. I did put a dowel in it only after she told me she was traveling 3 hours. Otherwise it would have been fine. I just put one from top to bottom.
