I am so messy when it comes to cupcakes. I feel like I have tried everything, but nothing really helps me. Actually I am very messy when it comes to baking all around icon_cry.gif !So I have been thinking of getting a batter dispenser for pancakes, cupcakes etc. Does anyone have one? Do you like it? What to look for? I have seen many different kinds and prices. Just wondering if I could get any tips.

Sorry I have never heard of a batter dispenser but I have the large cookie scoop from Pampered Chef and it works great for cupcakes. You use one scoop and the cupcake is the perfect size!

I have tried an ice cream scoop, but i still end of slopping it all over. does the cookie scoop have a thing to push the batter off? Maybe that is the key?

I am sooo glad this subject came up -- I'm the same way with cupcakes so I went to Williams-Sonoma and got one for $35. Came home, used it once before I discovered that both ends do NOT come off, thus making it impossible to clean. When the plunger went all the way back, batter seeped through and it stayed there, locked in to rot. There went $35 down the drain!! What I do now is put the cupcake batter in a pourable measuring cup and pour it into the pan with a big serving spoon underneath to catch drips as I go from one cupcake cavity to the next. That works much better!! icon_rolleyes.gif

Yes the cookie scoop has the thing to push the batter off. And I just had to go and check it comes out of the dishwasher clean as a whistle. I never had a problem with cake batter being left behind. I don't remember what I paid for it but I am sure it was no where near $35 - I am much to cheap for that! icon_smile.gif I have also noticed since I have been adding the pudding and sour cream to my mix it is somewhat thicker than regular cake mix so that may help also.

Hi Merissa! I had EXACTLY the same issue - big battery mess every time I made cupcakes. I bought the heavy duty, good quality chrome ice cream scoops (regular and mini) with the push-out thingies.

I can fill 2 pans of cupcakes now SO FAST, with no spills at all. It's made all the difference in the world, and you get pretty even cupcakes. My next thing is to get a digital scale, and follow CupcakeMomma's advice of weighing each filled-cupcake-liner to ensure evenness.

The ice-cream scoop is the best tip I've ever gotten for cupcakes. Don't even need a spatula!

how bout a pastry bag? i use a disposable one, just cut the hole smaller. it gives you more control. just remember to fill the bag half way. otherwise you have a mess out the other end!! icon_biggrin.gif

I use the older Tupperware Large mix and stor type container for cupcakes. It has a thinner spout than the new ones do. Works like a charm. Maybe you can find one on Ebay.

Hi guys! I didnt think I had a lot of responses for this, my email must not have alerted me. Anyway I wish I had checked earlier, but i went ahead and bought a batter dispenser from ebay. (I did see the williams and sonoma one, but I got a cheaper one) It was like $10, so I guess it wont be a huge loss if it doesnt work. I will let you know how it goes after I try it out! If not and am trying the cookie/icecream scoop with the pusher thing next!

I have a batter dispenser. I've never used it for cupcakes though. I'm almost embarassed to admit that I bought that pancake "kit" from the infomercials a few years ago! It came with a batter dispenser and I've used it for that. It's easy to clean and it's fairly un-messy. I do have to set it down on a plate or a bowl because there is some batter that hangs on for dear life at the bottom. The only drawback is that it's not the easiest thing to fill...that's the messiest part. In my opinion, it would be messier to use one than to not.

For cupcakes, I use a soup ladle and it works great!

I LOVE my pampered chief set!! I got the large one for cupcakes and the medium one for cake balls. If I make the cakeballs all level with the top of the scoop I can roll them quickly into very uniform balls.

Hi Jenn, how does this scoop differ from a similar one that I can get in the store? Thanks
