Who has taken or going to take the wilton class? Is there any other class that you can take for cake decorating? I Live in South Carolina!!
The Wilton classes are the most commonly available. Otherwise there are some random classes in different areas, though they'll be harder to find. You aren't too far from Nicholas Lodge's school in Atlanta, so that's an option though it's very expensive.

Hope you're having nice weather in SC...lived in Charleston for 3 years & LOVED it, my husband is from Pelion, SC.
Right now I live in beaufort sc with my husband and twin babies, my husband is in the military and I was looking into taking the wilton class but I don't want to spend all this money we don't have right now and it all be a waste of time! Has anyone felt like this?
Well, as a former Wilton teacher, and a former Military Wife, I know your struggle. You may want to see if you can just get the class book and teach yourself as much as you can and you can learn a lot here. Buy materials little by little, etc. It's not a waste of time, it's a wonderful hobby and can be very fulfilling, especially while the hubby is away on a deployment. You CAN teach yourself a lot, and I am sure the people here at CC would be willing to help you learn.

I was trained on all three wilton classes long ago and ultimately taught them. If you don't want to go ahead and spend that kind of money, you can always get a cake decorating book from the library or go to a local cake store which frequently has cake classes in the Fall and Winter months. Wilton is good because it provides you with step-by-step instructions in the book plus an instructor to help you along the way. Decorating books are good too, but you will go farther with an instructor. Cake store classes are good as their instructors are frequently professionals in the business and you are not confined to the parameters of the Wilton method. No matter which option you choose, all will cost some $$ and you will only get out of it what you put into it. Hope that helps some!! ![]()
during the winter months, membership is down in the classes so they offer them half off.You might want to see if yours does this as well.I was able to take all three courses at $12.50 each and we recieved a discount all on of our supplies.
Good luck!

I'm taking them now--starting Course 3 on Thursday. If you have a Michael's nearby, the courses are still 1/2 off ($12.50) this month, but you probably need to sign up pronto--in my area new courses are all starting this week.
I've enjoyed taking the courses. Most of the work is done at home--I spend a lot of time mixing up icing and baking a cake every couple of weeks and making flowers, but you can do that on your own schedule. The most expensive course so far was Course 1, because I didn't have some of the things I needed already, but I spent pretty much nothing on Course 2.
To save money on supplies, if you think you'll go beyond Course 1 or continue to decorate, my instructor suggested taking one of the 40% or 50% coupons and buying the toolbox with 101 pieces in it--it has most of the stuff you'll need for all 3 courses.
I took course I for 1/2 price of $12.50. Will start course 2 for $7.50. It was 1/2 price of $12.50 less coupon for $5.00 off given to us in the course 1 class that we could use towards any other Wilton course class. We also get the 10% off supplies. Plus any coupons we can use. Since Michaels will take JoAnn's coupons also.
This is the last week of Course 3 for me... my instructor was great. I took the classes at Joann's Fabrics, Muskegon, MI so between the coupons in our weekly paper, the coupons I signed up for online and the ones that get sent to me in the newsletter/flyer (make sure you scan them every time even if you don't buy anything just to stay on the mailing list) I was able to save 40-50% off all my products plus they gave us a bounce back coupon for the next class. But the best bit of news we heard last week they are discussing adding a 4th course to the wilton classes! I'm excited!!! I just wish they gave you more time in class because sometimes the learning is rushed.
Have fun we know you will enjoy it!!
The classes that I'm taking is 1/2 off $12.50 for the month of January but b/c my husband is coming back from depolyment and i'm getting stuff together Jan. is not a good time so I was wanting to take the class in Feb. But I don't know what the promotion is for the classes during that month, and in Feb they were going to start the 4th class, so thats another reason, i'm excited about it though!!!!! ![]()
Congrats on your hubby coming home. We are crossing our fingers about my BIL coming home in May. He might get a two week leave in FEB. We are not going to see them. My husband & I think he should have that time with his wife & kids.
If you can do the classes once yur husband comes home, you'll love them. I took them five years ago. We were surviving on my husbands income, our oldest was 9, middle was 4, youngest was 3. I enjoyed "my" time. My family enjoyed eating the practice. Good Luck.
