Hi everyone - I just discovered this site a few days ago and I'm completely addicted and impressed with everyone's work and knowledge.

I bought a tub of Satin Ice a while back and stuck it on a shelf in the garage until I needed it. I just grabbed it and opened it up and the fondant is rock hard. I'm assuming that it's that way because it's been cold, but will it soften up overnight at room temperature? I hope so!

I'm planning on tinting it; never done that before but from what I've read it's just a lot of kneading, correct? I'm making NYE champagne cupcakes for a party and want to make sky blue fondant letters spelling out "Happy New Year." party.gif

It should soften up at room temp. You can also stick as much as you need in the microwave for a few seconds to make it workable. When kneading it I always put a little crisco on my hands and the surface I'm working on to keep it from sticking. HTH

Remember to use a lot less color than you think you'll need - it's easier to darken than to lighten. Keep what ever you are not using tightly covered too so it doesn't get "crunchy/dry".

Good luck! Fondant is lots of fun!!! If you want to practice - try play-doh its cheaper and basically the same consistency.

Boy, you people are fast! Thanks.

The color I have is a concentrated gel, I think, so I will definitely be very careful.

I've used the Wilton colored stuff before for flower cutouts - much fun. I can't wait to try and cover my first cake. I have a lot of articles on this site to read to prepare!
