Dear Ms Vincent,

Does this need to be a wedding cake with a theme of Hollywood Glamour or
any cake that is Hollywood Glamour themed? Thank you ahead of time!

Sincerely,
Rachel A Wright

Dear Rachel:

Thank you for your inquiry.

Both directions are good for inspiration. I am including some prepared information that may shed light if you haven't entered before

Please visit www.oklahomasugarartist.com for a look at the recent 2006 event rules -- which will be superseded by the 2007 version sometime in late January to end February. The actual official completion time for the rules is June 30. Much of it will remain the same, there will of course be changes, but it will give you a good idea about how it all works here.

Competitors don't have to compete in the wedding cake competition if they don't want to -- as you will see by the rules, there are two distinct shows under the one umbrella.

OKLAHOMA SUGAR ARTISTS
PRESENT
THE OKLAHOMA STATE SUGAR ART SHOW
&
HOLLYWOOD GLAMOUR CAKES 2007

September 29 and 30 with setup on the 28th.

Next year, competitors will be researching celluloid to create red carpet Academy Award winning wedding cakes. Already title names are being tossed about and designs are on the drawing board for Hollywood Glamour Cakes."
Dressing the bridal table is just like coordinating a wardrobe -- all of the complementary elements must be there.
The contestants chosen theme must be echoed in the table design.
This competition is open to contestants from semiprofessional to master level.

Entrants who don't care to fuss with all the individual table ornamentation may enter the Oklahoma State Sugar Art Show -- a companion event that focuses on the skill of the decorator without added to-do. Little or no table decoration is required and contestants may compete against their peers in experience appropriate divisions with eight different categories from which to choose (children's though masters).

(Free of charge) CELEBRITY DEMONSTRATIONS WILL BE PRESENTED BY DR. ROLAND MESNIER MOF
(FORMER WHITE HOUSE PASTRY CHEF & AUTHOR -- ROLAND WILL CONDUCT A BOOK SIGNING DURING HIS VISIT.)
THE LEGENDARY DR. MESNIER HAS SERVED 8 PRESIDENTS
&
A NEW DISCOVERY FOR THE USA -- TALENTED CAKE & SUGAR ARTIST
PAM ARCHIBALD (SUSIE-Q, NIDDRIE, VIA MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA).
PAM HAS CREATED MANY UNUSUAL CAKES FOR UPSCALE CLIENTS AND IS CONSISTENTLY FEATURED IN PREMIER MAGAZINES SUCH AS MODERN WEDDING CAKES & CHOCOLATES

HER CLASS -- NOT TO BE MISSED -- WILL BE CONDUCTED OCTOBER 1 & 2, 2007 -- US$ 200 -- in US dollar funds
FIRST COME FIRST SERVED

Nothing can be exhibited here if it has been in competition before or at the ICES convention -- the work must be new and fresh and we hope will express new techniques and invention.

Due to the heightened interest in chocolate, which has been encouraged via demonstration in past years, contestants have expressed an interest in a chocolate related category, which I have decided to institute in 2007. We will take tiny steps to get started asking for simple showpieces and later building up to more complicated work.

Please send your snail mail information so we can include you on our hard copy mailing list which goes out the first week of July.

Hope that answers everything you need to know for the moment.

Best,

Kerry

She is a great lady.

I would love to learn how to run a cake show like that, and bring it back East. So glad B. Keith Ryder, Margaret Vetter and Jo Puhak are running the Mid-Atlantic now.

I was in the midst of planning the Arizona show in February, but moved. I'm devastated - I was on a committee and everything!

It is pretty wide open like the theme for 2006. I have been tossing ideas around and trying to do something that fifteen people did not do already!

See, that's the thing that I'm fearing the most. I know that the two elements that EVERYONE is going to do is Oscars and Red Carpet. Or will everyone thing that everyone is doing it and not do it? AHHHHHHHHHHH!

We can use cake dummies as long as we're not doing any sculpting, right?

What about using pastillage?
