Hell all! I need some help making a football helmet cake! My dad is BIG into the Jets and would love to make him a cake for this weekend! I just can't seem to get my brain thinking in the right way for this cake! So if you can me out with any pointers on how to do it, it would really help me out! I was thinking about making the cake in my pyrex bowls and than carve it out of them! I have never carved a cake either so I think that is what is throwing me off! I have also had a problem with my crumb coating! I guess I just can't get the right mix going for it! Any ideas or suggestion would help me out ALOT! Thank you!

I think that ACD had a helmet cake in it. They used I think 4 8in rounds stacked. They had a board on top of the second one, and it was supported by dowels, so they could carve out the bottom 1/3 underneath the board. Then they rounded the top. They iced the whole thing with chocolate buttercream. The face mask was made of a mixture of fondant and gumpaste. It's in the December 2006 issue, pages 44-47.

HTH.
