okay, I made a cake with the theme of "mickey mouse". I put a cake from a boobie pan, on top and stuck sugar cookies in it. Well, the lady called me and said the cake had fallen apart. Since, I am a "newbie" I panicked. Well, when she brought the cake to me - only the cookies fell out. What can I use for the ears????

Plus, what do you do when you feel that your cakes have been messed up due to the person who was travelling with it. Did I mention that it was a little four door car with 6 people in it!!!!!

I need help because I have to fix the cake and take it to their hotel room slumber party - 45 minutes away!!!!!

Thank you Thank you

You could make thick chocolate discs and "glue" them in place by slicing off a little off the bottom to make a flat edge and then using some of the same candy melts to attach it to the cake or you could use tooth picks inserted in the ears at a few points and stick it down into the cake just advise the family that they are held on with tooth picks so they know when they cut into it.

As for the customer being at fault make them sign a release for the cake at time of pick up stating that they are signing below and releasing you from any fault if something happens during delivery. Basically saying "you break it it's your fault not mine" lol Alot of people here have that clause in their contracts that they would prefer to do a perfessional delivery but if the customer insists on picking it up themselves there isn't much you can do except have them sign a release which let's you off the hook if it's ruined icon_smile.gif Also take pics with them standing right there so that you can say yes it was in one piece when it left my house. icon_smile.gif

I will try that.

Here is the thing - first it travelled in someone's lap!!!! Then the lady took it to her work. Got out of the car - took the cake into her work. Then she said that when she took it to work (in a hospital) that when she opened it - the cookies had fallen off and torn the hat part in half

Sounds to me like someone smashed it... couldn't say without seeing a picture of either before or after so... But I would go ahead and fix it the best you can and deliver it yourself. But I would advise her there is an additional $10-$20.~ charge for repair and delivery since she didn't let you deliver the first time.... As for your delivery I'd ask someone to accompany you on this trip and hold the cake very securely on the way there. icon_smile.gif But I'd advise her before repairing and delivery of the additional charges.... that way if she doesn't want to pay for repairs and delivery she can take it as is icon_smile.gif It's not your problem anymore it's been paid for and picked up once it changes hands it's no longer your concern icon_smile.gif

PS... I've delivered every cake I've made with it sitting on someone's lap... it all depends on the holder if it's going to make it or not. In my photos is a Barbie and Flowers set of 4 cakes.... the flowers were in trays like you'd get a meat or veggie tray in from the store deli and the barbie cake was on a full sheet sized mat and box and was held on my husbands lap all the way to the party which was a very bumpy hour drive away plus having to battle the two dogs when I walked in the door with the cake plus nosey adults and fingering children who couldn't wait lol.... it survived just fine... I think it has alot to do with the people who handled it sounds to me like someone either smooshed it somehow or maybe they were fiddling with the ears to find out how they were attached....

Did she look at the cake before she took it? Once it leaves in someone elses hands THEY are responsible for it. In this case, since you already took the cake back and agreed to deliver it you kind of have to hold to your word and do so. You can use this experience for future reference! We all do this kind of thing at one time or another.. icon_cry.gif

yep, not only that..I take a picture of EVERY cake I make..not all of them of course I post I mean , how many duplicate cakes can one person post..lol

And, I always inform my client..that I took a picture of the cake! I tell them that it's for insurance, that the cake left my shop in one piece but also if they get carried away and forget to take a cake photo they can email me and I will send them one!

I have NEVER had ANYONE come back with a cake for me to fix!

HTH!
