My partner and I have a vendor table at an upcoming Bridal Show in Feb and need to know what do bakeries cover their cake dummies with that you see sitting in their display cases and windows. These same cakes may be there for months. We are wanting to make displays in advance for this show and need some suggestions on what to cover the dummies with that will look good and be permanent or semi-permanent. We plan on making cake balls for samples but we needed eye popping displays so of course we need time to do these. Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions.

When I worked in a supermarket bakery, our dummies were just iced with regular buttercream. They can sit for months and, so long as they don't get poked, they will be just fine. If they get dusty, just lightly dust them off.

I'm now independent and I am also making dummies for bridal shows in a few weeks. I still just cover my dummies with buttercream and/or fondant. They will sit for months with no problems. I don't do anything permanent because styles change and I'll want something different by the time the next show comes.

If you do want permanent, though, there is something called prema-ice. It will be permanent, and if it get dusty, you can actually wash it off.
