I think most people get burned out and need a break eventually. Enjoy your break and best of luck finding a job as a dental tech. Too bad you don't live where I do, there is a ton of dentist here and they always need help.

I did that once, too. There was a lot going on in my life at the time that added to the stress..... I was getting divorced, going thru a custody battle (I was leaving a, let's just say a "violent" marriage, and he had the NERVE to ask for custody of our kids!). I was "stuck" with all the bills from the marriage, and making cakes had turned into a job and wasn't for fun anymore (yes, I was doing it as a side business back then and it was an income, but that was a bonus .... I LUV'D making wedding cakes!)

Anyway .... when it wasn't fun anymore, I didn't feel that I was putting my whole heart and soul into it. This was a young lady's wedding and I "didn't care" anymore. So I stopped. I had other priorities that needed my attention (2 kids who had only me to depend on now).

Fortunately, that time period passed and I picked it up again later .... with the same love and passion that I had before.

Sometimes you just need to take time out for you. And that's OK. thumbs_up.gif

Not with cake decorating, but another career.I worked so hard and such long hours that I just burned out.I hated going to work and small things about my customers just got under my skin, things that normally wouldn't have bothered me.I took a break for about a year and then I was ok.

Good luck and I hope a break is just what the Dr. ordered.

Don't feel alone! My shop is closed for 3 weeks right now! I'm turning orders away every day but I promised myself I would take this desperately needed time and I'm going to! If you need a break, figure out a way to take one, before you drive yourself nuts! icon_wink.gif

I know how you all feel, I work a full time job and bake and decorate. I am on vacation now from work and baking! No more till January 8th. I need a break. I went to Reno,NV at the end of Oct. I got back Oct 23rd and it's been non stop baking and decoration since. I literally got off the plane and headed for Walmart because I had cake to get out the next day, my plane was 4 hrs late which made it worse.

I know exactly how you feel. I finished my last order last week and I'm am so relieved. I'm looking for a regular job now so that I don't have to work so hard. I'm tired of 14 hour days and knot-headed customers.

I do love designing cakes and entering competitions. It's also nice to not HAVE to attend anything. If I don't show up for a competition it doesn't matter. Doing the cake business was just financing my trips to competitions. I'm finding a new finance method. icon_smile.gif
