I am so down. I started making cakes in the late summer, so its not like I've been doing this forever. I just want to be bettr than I am. I have these great visions in my head but I can't seem to execute them as well. I have this cake for Saturday, and I am having a harder time with it then I thought. I wish I didn't tell her yes. I thihk I bit off more than I can chew. I just finished a cake for someone and I don't think it looks good. To top it all off I have had 7 hours of sleep total over the past 5 nights (my daughter is sick) and I am fustrated.....
thanks for letting me vent.
so here is my "cupcake" I just made... it looks like my son made it icon_sad.gif

Did you trim the sides into a slightly "V" shape ?

I think it is cute. Hey , you put your heart and soul into it.. and that means a lot !! icon_smile.gif

Cake decoration takes a lot of practice and time. Few are born to do this. With practice and dedication, no doubt you will live up to your worst critic's expectations (you). thumbs_up.gif

Come on now, I think that cake is cute. Now, how do you expect to be perfect, when you really just got started. I think you will be great after you get some more practice and a lot more sleep. Things will be better after you have some rest. Hope your daughter feel better.

OK, now I just saw the OTHER cake, SEE?????? I knew you were better than you thought!!!!!!!!

I baked the cake in a bowl so it had the "v" shape.

I like your cupcake cake. It looks like a giant, home-made cupcake - real comfort food. I like the way you piped the side to look like a cupcake liner, and the colors are lively.

Do not be so hard on yourself. There are members here who have been doing cakes for years, and admittedly do not have sharp skills, but love to do cakes. All that matters is that you have the passion for it, and that you are willing to continue to practice so you can sharpen your skills.

I can't wait to see what you show us next.

Yes, you used creativity and made the cupcake look realistic.

I think its super cute! I can understand you being SUPER tired having a sick daughter in all on top of trying to decorate a cake. I can see from your other cakes that you certainly know what your doing! I think a fondant bottom would be cute....like the pic shown on a previous poster!

You are as bad as you "Think" you are. After seeing both cakes I know you are better than you "think" Get some sleep and hope your child feels better soon.

Don't sweat it my dear! I've made some masterpieces in my day, but a couple of weeks ago I forgot it was the kid next door's 4th birthday, so I "slapped together" a cake (and that's exactly what it looked like too!) and brought it over and they loved it and I apologized because it wasn't my best work. Part of my problem is that I waited till the bloody last second and had no design in mind. Now I've got some generic designs that I can adapt for various occasions and that makes life sweeter! Heck, even Tiger Woods hits the sand trap every now and again!! icon_biggrin.gif
