I actually use the white almond recipe for my chocolate cakes. I make the following changes: chocolate cake mix, 6 whole eggs (instead of 8 whites) and omit the almond. makes a great cake!

White almond is my most popular flavor. Especially with raspberry filling of some kind. icon_smile.gif

Might I suggest that you experiment with using chocolate cake mix instead of white cake mix, then add all except the almond extract, and change the clear vanilla for brown?

Unless, of course, you want to taste the almond in your chocolate cake, then you can add that, too.

If you do try this, please let me know how it comes out.

I haven't added almond flavor to my chocolate cake but I have made a chocolate cake and used almond in my buttercream for it. It was amazingly delicious. I used the hershey chocolate cake recipe and the buttercream dream with almond extract.

A matter of fact I need to get busy making one for my b-day tomorrow!

I use the same recipe for chocolate cake with these changes:

for the flour, I substitute 1/3 of it with cocoa (so for 1/2 the recipe, it would be 2/3 cup flour, and 1/3 cup cocoa)

the whole egg instead of just the whites (3 for 1/2 the recipe)

dark vanilla only instead of vanilla and almond

and I use the Duncan Hines Dark Chocoate fudge cake mix.

It is just as delicious as the white one is!!
