I just posted a castle cake that I made for my friends daughters birthday. The party is tomorrow around seven at night (about 24 hours from now). It is a 12x4 square white cake filled with buttercream for the base and then an 8x4 round chocolate cake filled with buttercream. The smaller cake on top is on a cake board, but in the hurry of finishing things to get the cake to her, I realized on the way to her home, I did not dowel the smaller cake. It is just on a cake board on top of the base cake. This shouldnt be a problem, right?? icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif Please Please Please someone reasure me this will be ok!!!! My hubby says it should be fine, because the top cake isnt heavy, and the bottom cake is solid, but I need some ccer's telling me the same!!! Please help!!

I totally forgot to dowel a 8x3 that I put on a 10x3 a few weeks ago and it had to sit overnight. it was probably about 24 hours later that the cake was eaten and there was no problem at all.

Very pretty cake! Keeping my fingers crossed for you! What kind of cake did you use - scratch, doctored mix, straight box mix? Is there any way you can take the 8" off and dowel it? I'm afraid it might sink a bit in 24 hours.

Oh I see others have done this with no problem. I'm a dowel freak - I dowel everything. Please disregard my earlier post LOL.

Beachcakes, no worries, I usually am a dowel freak myself, but with the holidays right here, and then this cake, and the tiredness, I just didnt think about it. It is just a duncan hines white cake mix. I really feel like the cake will be sturdy enough as a base to prevent it from falling through. I am just a nervous nelly. I worry myself to the point of being sick!!

It looks pretty sturdy and the fact that the base cake is so much larger it gives it a lot of surface to support it. It may however take the icing off the bottom cake when they lift the small one off.

I stacked 3- two layered 10" rounds with filling on top of each other and the cake was fine. I don't even know how to use dowel rods. You're cake is gorgeous. I just added it to my favorites.

it should be fine. I made a heavy 3-d soccer ball on top of my nieces 9x13 cake and didn't dowel it good enough in the back. It just sank down a little bit but no one noticed but me.
