I Found A Great Way To Seal Icing Bags...

I've been doing a lot of cake-related crafts with my children's classes and boy scouts for the past year and it usually involves making 20 -30 individual piping bags with royal icing. I have been using the 12" bags, cutting most of it off to get the size I need and then closing them with rubber bands. This is very tedious, especially with a "bad" left thumb which I broke many years ago (on a roller coaster) and it never set properly.
So, this job really killed me until a lightbulb went off....I whipped out my FoodSaver (vacuum sealer) that is now available everywhere....and it works like a dream....
Not only does it seal perfectly....I can make the cut off pieces that I used to discard, back into triangles and use them for more bags!
Great way to store royal icing! (or any icing) Just make sure you only seal it...not vacuum-seal it!

Broken thumb on a roller coaster!! OUCH!! I'm guessing you didn't "keep your hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times" ![]()
I don't have a food sealer, so I will have to continue to make due with "snack food clips". They clip over the end of the bag, and hold in the icing. (Note: These clips are basically two flat sticks, hinged together on one end, and clipping together on the other.)
The food sealer is a great idea, though.

Funny - I just did this this week for my son's pre-K class making gingerbread houses! Works great - don't know why I never did it before when I am making cakes - keeps the RI from drying out on the top of the bag as well. ![]()

That's a great idea! I can't wait to try it. I usually have to refill my bags, so I use Twixit clips to close off the ends. You can get them at stores like Linens N Things, Bed Bath and Beyond, probably even Wal Mart. I don't know if Pampered Chef still sells them, but that's where I got my first Twixits over 10 years ago!
I used mine once to seal the Power Ranger transfer and boy was I surprised when I went to use the transfer...ouch, had to redo it ![]()

What is the Power Ranger transfer? And why does it need to be sealed?
I was referring to the FBCT of the Power Ranger that I made for a cake and the storing of it in the freezer until I was ready to use it; I made the transfer a week in advanced. Me like a dummy didn't just seal it, I made the mistake and vaccum sealed it. ![]()

Oh! Eek!! How did the FBCT hold up after a week? How did you ultimately wrap it, if at all?

The first day we had ours, my husband thought it would be a good idea to vaccum seal some fresh rolls - of course you are supposed to FREEZE them BEFORE you try to vaccum pack them!
