does anyone else really dislike getting holiday related item for gifts this time of year? As ya'll might know, I just had a birthday and my MIL knows I love copper cookie cutters! Well she buys me four of them but they are all holiday related...a tree with a star atop, a snowflake ( I have to admit I have always wanted to do a snowflake cookie), a gingerbread man and a star! I actually do not have the time to whip out more cookies before the end of the year soooooo, tucked away they are for next year!!!!
I've also, in the past recieved a Christmas bear for Christmas! Cute but in the box he goes for next year! Why do people do that? Is it because they are on "clearance" and it's a good deal!!!???

I hear ya cakemommy!! One year I got a Christmas sweater for my Christmas present.....ick!! I don't think I ever wore it!! ![]()

It was black and had a big ugly christmas tree with jingle bell ornaments on it!!! ![]()
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!
I wanna see it!! You can wear it this year on Christmas!!!!! ![]()
I know what you mean, I love Christmas stuff but when you get it for a present, it's a bummer that you can't use it til next year!! EEERR!!
I understand exactly what you are saying. My sons birthday was the 12th and my grandaughters was yesterday, the 20th. It isn't fair that their special days are mixed in with the holidays. All December babies should be made to feel their day is important too. No holiday birthday gifts!
I find that a winter theme is better than Christmas. Snowmen, snowflakes, cocoa, things like that. I prefer decorating especially with snowmen - they stay out for 3 months rather than 5 weeks or so.
Some people actually just don't get it! My fiance wanted to buy his sister a tree topper for her gift since she wants to replace hers. "Gee, this is nice, let me not look at it for a year." He got the picture! Only if it is edible will I give Christmas-y Christmas gifts - like edible ornaments!
WHEW! I'm not the only one!!! They are just lame gifts! If it's edible well then alright!!! I can take care of that in one bite ![]()
I also don't care for it when someone asks me a few weeks before Christmas what I want!!!!!! Dude, if you want me to be surprised then don't ask!!!!!!!!!! If I suspect you got me what I told you I wanted then I'll be like "Great, you found it. Thanks! Saves me from having to go out and buy it! ![]()
!
I love being surprised on Christmas. My Grandmother in-law remembers everything I talk about and she'll get me something for either my birthday or Christmas that I mention in January of that year!!!!!!! Now that's a great way to get a gift, when someone cares enough to listen and remember!!!

P.S. Hey, I woke up to snow this morning. I'm just sorry that I didn't know to expect it or else I would have been out playing in it while it was falling!

Yeah, I had to get the kids dressed as well as the mommy and the daddy and don the video camera and start taping. Daddy leaves in two weeks for 7 months so I figured I had better get out the camera and start making cd's he can take with him!
We're supposed to be getting more snow next Friday and Saturday. We'll see! Anyone who loves to ski is in heaven right now up in Snoqualmie Pass!!!!!! I'm more of an intertuber myself!!! ![]()

I hate getting Christmas ornaments for Christmas! Especially those cheesy "Our First Christmas" ones! Bleck!!! My trees usually have a theme and I spent quite a bit in time and money to get the right combination of decor for the tree so it will look right. Then, the first year we were married, his sister bought us an "Our First Christmas" ornamant.
First, it was a HUGE thing and didn't blend in at all with my decor. *IF* I had hung it on my tree, I would have had a tree with nicely coordinated small decorations with this big 'ole honkin' ornament staring out from the center of the tree!
Second, I absolutely HATE those cheesy, teeny-bopper, "oh my gosh isn't it so CU-U-U-U-U-TE!!" ornaments that are "suppose" to be sentimental. (Bat eyelashes rapidly, bop head back and forth, act 16 years old ..... that really looks stupid when it's done by a fat 40+ year old woman!)
For 18 years, this ornament has been buried in my collection of Christmas decor and it's never been out of the original box. The gift that is never used. I'm SO glad you wasted your money on getting someone a non-gift!
(Whew! I feel MUCH better now!)
Wow!!! I am laughing and smiling over here! I really loved your story! Hey, I'm
with you not at you!!!! ![]()
I can't have a tree off balance either! That's one thing I have to have in my life is balance and a big herkin' ornament out of place on a tree isn't going to give me the inner peace I so need!!!

Here's a kicker - help me figure it out! Usually the kids bring home paper ornaments, or photo frames with themselves, things that are pretty easy to hang or store. Ds brought home a freaking floor tile! We saw them half done after the concert- okay, a paintred trivet! Cool! Then she goes and has them glue their picture and some stones to the middle of it. What the HECK am I supposed to do with this? Too heavy to hang, and can't use. No shelving (we rent) to put it on either. Non-usable gift that has to be used SOMEHOW since it's from ds. Any ideas?
I can see the logic behind some of your annoyances, but I guess I am from the old school, receiving a gift, any gift is a thought from someone who cared for you, regardless of what it is. I feel like Christmas has gotton way out of hand in the material dept. The true meaning of Christmas, family, love, sharing and being thankful don't seem to be important anymore.
Cupcake, I do agree with you that it's the thought that counts. I would say, tho, that most of these are from people who buy because it's expected, not because they think you truly would like it. For instance, I got an art book for the exchange this year. The book itself could be better, but I LOVE it because my bil2b thought about what I would like, drove over an hour and picked it out himself. He could have just picked up a basket of bath stuff from Walmart and called it a day, but he put thought into it. I got Christmas stuff from my gramma, but it was a great gift because she made it herself. I'm frustrated that I can't use it again till next year, but it is because I want to display the basket she made, not because I don't appreciate it. Does that make sense?
I completely agree! We have five kids under 4 amongst myself and my DH and his two brothers. It's all about the kids but every year we seem to change whether we shop for the grown kids or just the little kids! This year we of course bought for the little kids and just one gift between the brothers and their wives!
We happen to have someone in our family, my DH's middle brother who is absolutely clueless as to what to buy someone for a gift no matter the occasion. Last year we drew names out of a hat and that's who we bought gifts for with a $50-$100 limit! Well, my DH's middle brother drew my DH last year and he got the most useless gifts! Everything had a maximum price of $5.00 on it and half the stuff still hasn't been touched!!! He has been like this his whole life, kind of like his mother "clueless"! Sure he's a pharmacist and all but when it comes to common sense, he seriously lacks! He's a great guy and all but man he needs to get a clue either that or be in touch with his family more to know what we all like and don't like!
