The cake mix extender makes it taste less like boxed cake and more like homemade.

For chocolate cake use the extender PLUS 1/4 cup of cocoa with 2tbsp oil.

YUMMY!

I always add a box of complimenting pudding mix, and extra egg, and replace all of the water with milk. Yum!

Are you adding the violet to the cake batter or to the frosting? The violet will work to whiten the frosting, you just add tiny little touches at a time until you are happy with it. I have read that the violet will not work in the cake batter, it does not lighten that much.

Definitely worth a try in BC. I have done it before in half crisco/half butter BC. Once I added too much and it got a little grayish, but another time it was bright white. Good luck!
