Hey ladies remember my cake that got screwed up earlier this week? Well I decided I am going to try cake balls! But I have a down fall, no ready made frosting to throw in it! What else can I use? I don't feel like packing the kids in the car running to the store, that is too much work for me today!

You can use just about anything to "bind" the cake, it doesn't have to be frosting. I've used cream, chocolate (melted), liquor, melted butter, even just milk. But if you want to use frosting, just make your own. Be creative! icon_biggrin.gif

You could use liquid coffee creamer, any type of liquer, honey, syrup, ice cream topping, chocolate syrup... anything that will make the cake stick together icon_smile.gif

I have used the coffee creamers and even egg nog to bind the cake balls. Buttercream is easy to make too! I have never met a cake ball I didn't like!

Even just mix a little powdered suger and milk together and you have instant binder. Good luck!

liquid coffee creamer (flavored)
marshmallow cream
peanut butter

These are the ones I use the most of.

Has anyone made german chocolate cake balls? If so how did you do it? I was going to mix pecans and coconut in with chocolate cake and add some sort of binder. Should I mix up the real german chocolate frosting to use?

I think you should use the german frosting as a binder and roll them in a pecan/coconut mixture, or just dipped them in chocolate. Either way I'm sure they'll be tasty! icon_smile.gif
