I hate to sound like a broken record, but is the board that goes between the tiers the thin boards, or is it the harder cake board that you rest cakes on???

Th thinner boards go between the layers, the harder/thicker boards are for the bottom tier - to carry the weight of the whole cake.

I wrap my boards in fanci foil or clear contact paper. I don't use foil because it rips when the cake is cut and makes it hard to serve.

Just a heads up... if using the 3/16's size foamcore for a large cake base then you'll need 3 or more boards glued together. I recently did a big cake where I only used two and it wasn't really enough.
