Is yellow cake the same as vanilla cake? I thought it was! Is there a doctored cake mix that anyone uses to make a vanilla cake. My friend specifically wants vanilla and I have only made a few doctored mixes iwth pudding or creamer! Any ideas! Thanks, brandy

Brandy try the WASC cake without the almond. Butter cake (yellow) is not (at least I don't think it is) as vanilla.

2 cake mixes (white)
2 cups sugar
2 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons veggie oil
8 large egg whites
1 16 oz container sour cream (keeps it moist)
2 2/3 cups of water
4 teaspoons vanilla (or butavan or whatever flavoring combo you want)

Mix the dry ingredients really well...add wet ingredients ... mix and bake at 325 ...MAKES A LOT but you can halve the recipe very easily...makes a great cake!

I consider "vanilla" and "white" the same thing. To me "yellow" is something totally different.

Just my personal view.....

I have been wanting to try that but I am terrified of making a scratch cake, even thought that has a box in it! I am going to do it though...one question? If I halve the recipe, will I have enough for a ten inch round (2 layers)! Thanks, I guess I just grouped vanilla and butter into the same category! Is this cake ggod with regular buttercream? Plus I will cover it with fondant, how does that taste?!

in my opinion, yellow cake and butter cake is different, but only slightly and only to certain people. what signifies a yellow cake is adding in egg yolks along with the whites. adding more butter into the recipe makes it even richer and creates a butter cake.

omitting the egg yolks and only putting in whites will result in a white/vanilla cake.

I agree with this...

And this for the yellow vs butter. I consider a buttercake to be more pound cake texture.
