Hi everyone

I desperately need to get some ideas for a 3' X 4' sheet cake... This is for over 300 people attending a business of the year awards ceremony. The cake is for next Wed. I'm baking and filling the cakes over the next two days..
Great potential for business.

I've got a couple of ideas but I don't think they are good enough.. Wish they would let me do a stacked cake, then I would have some great ideas.

I've attached the invitation (front and inside) this is the theme and colors.

The cake will be a chocolate cake with raspberry chocolate ganach filling.

Any and all ideas WELCOME!!!

Thank you so much!!

i agree, a stacked cake would give you more dimension. are you using fondant to cover?

oh my gosh, that invitation just lends itself to a sheet cake design!! I would duplicate those circle/dot designs on the sheet, complete with the blue border at the bottom, with the name of the organization and year in the center. Perhaps put one of the invitations in an acrylic stand next to the cake.

Quick, simple and easy, and it will look classy for the event! Circles may seem "too easy" to those who are used to doing much more elaborate stuff, but I would bet anything that when you walk in with a cake that matches their invitation exactly, they will be blown away.

I would also dup the invite and use fondant to cover, it well look clean, neat and professional.

Will also help with covering the chocolate cake, you know it can be a pain sometimes.

Good Luck sounds fun

Thanks ladies,

I thought of doing the invite as the design, but thought that the blueish color would be overwelming on a cake that size... you don't think so?

I also was going to use the chocolate ganache as the icing.. I wanted to cover in fondant, but do not have a sheeter, so how would I cover a cake that big in fondant without seams showing? Is there a special trick to it..I use fondant, but nothing as big as this before.

debi, I like the idea of having the name in the middle.. what I need to have is the following:

The colleges school logo and program name, and showing it's the 11th year as well as "visions for excellence" on it..
I thought of doing the visions of excellence in gumpaste and put on the front of the actual board I'm putting it on.

Question: I'm going to Home Depot today to buy the wood and have it cut to size.. I was going to get them to cut it an extra 6" all around and then I was going to paint it the same color of blue on the invite and then put ribbon to match the green on the rim of the wood.
What do you all think of that idea.

thanks again for the help.. icon_biggrin.gif

I would use the ivory side (inside) of the invitation rather than the mostly blue one.

Yes, that's what I was thinking, except that the pic doesn't show the true color.. It's kind of a very very pale mustard color. It actually matches my color on my livingroom walls...LOL Maybe I should paint the cake board that color and put the blueish color ribbon around the board.
