Does any one know if there is a certain time when One should say frosting and not icing, like is fondant an icing or a frosting?

Is there a difference? Plz. I'm supposed to be finishing a report on this subject soon, so if you could let me know today that would be great.

I am only guessing here, but if you wanted to distinguish between the two
"icing" would be used for anything "laid on" the cake (such as rolled fondant) and associated decorations (e.g. royal icing) and "frosting" is buttercream and the like.
