I am entering a decorating contest Nov 4. I am making a 4 tier cake and I am trying to decide what flavor and filling to make. I am not sure if I should make all one flavor or a combination within the different tiers.

Any suggestions of a GREAT cake flavor and filling and a recipe to go with it.

Thanks

are they going to taste the cake and judge the flavor? if they are, i would try different combinations. if not, i would just do whatever recipe is easiest. if you are going for taste, i love chocolate cake and cookies and cream filling. i also love almond cake with chocolate ganach filling. as you can tell, i'm a chocolate girl!

Please don't be upset you didn't get an answer...it doesn't mean we don't care...we either just didn't see your post or didn't have a good answer for you. I have seen a lot of posts where they say, "I am new to decorating so can't really help you."
I really don't see the point in a post like that. If I don't know I don't say anything. I did not see your first post.
If it is a decorating contest, they probably aren't even going to taste the cake. Go with something simple that stacks really well. I would do a white cake as it is easier to ice and I would use buttercream for the filling as it holds the layers together better.
If they are going to be tasting the cake, I would do 4 tiers whose flavors compliment each other. I did one where I used citrus flavors and it went over really well. I used raspberry, orange, lemon and lime. It makes really pretty colors when sliced also. I think if you bake a really good tasting cake you don't want a filling which will overpower it. I keep my fillings simple, usually a fruit filling or ganache.
I hope this helps.
