OKay mainly my question is - how can I go about asking how much a bakery pays their cake decorators - starting pay I mean. I know of some bakeries around here - I don't know how great htey are or what kind of cakes tehy do - so I know I need to visit - but I also know none of them are probably hiring right now - but I am curious how much they would pay. I just got a new job and I'm not liking it too much - if I could get around $12.00 an hour...... I'd love to switch to a cake decorating job where I can learn a lot more and have a lot more fun! icon_smile.gif But I only actually interviewed at one place here - Whole Foods - and they only paid like $7.00 an hour........ I don't think I can afford to take that large of a paycut.

What do you all think? Can I call the bakeries and ask them? When should I do that if I do? If I actually need to go in - when would be a good time to go considering I do have a full time job?

Thanks all!!

No, I wouldn't call and ask them how much they pay.

Especially now, it's really busy, I know that I get those kinds of calls and I'm so Poed I just want to hang up...but then again I'm alone here doing everything and talking to someone that is looking for a job or asking questions is taking my time.

If you are looking for a job...I think that updating and dropping off your resume would be a lot better, with a "I'll call after the holidays and see if you and I can meet to talk". "Thank you for your time"..and skeedadle out of there! lol

And in your resume you NEED to put your asking salary.

ask for 13.00 to 15.00 an hour and see what they offer you.

You may get a compromise and get your 12.00 an hour.

hmmm that sounds like a good idea..... I'm just not real sure how to put together a "cake resume". I've taken the Wilton classes and a gumapste class at a local place..... and of course I have my gallery of pictures - but other than that........ what should I write or try to write?

I just made a short letter, introducing myself, gave a short resume of my cababilities..then condensed my resume onto ONE page...and all the pictures that I had showcasing diff. tech went on a page..

I had like 16 small thumbprint pictures on one page.
