Looks Like I May Have A Teaching Position!

I have to call and set up a time to meet with the education coordinator at a local JoAnn's about filling their Wilton position! I am excited and scared to death! I hope it ends up being worth my time if I do get the position! I am so happy! I was getting ready to start looking for a child to babysit, but I won't have to if I get this position!
Yes, but you have to order it directly from them, not acquire it at the store, and therefore pay shipping. Several WMI's told me they do better using the store coupons.

you have to apply? I thought that you let wilton know you were interested, they "hire" you and send you to fill vacancies at accounts..
hmmmm!...?
I filled out an online Wilton information thing letting them know I was interested in becoming an instructor. I was contacted by the supervisor from Wilton that handles the Michael's stores asking me if I was still interested and letting me know if I was, to go into Michael's and submit an application. I'm actually employed by Michael's.
As far as the discount with Wilton, I find if you just wait and use your 40 or 50% off coupon, then Michael's gives me a 25% employee discount, it's far better than ordering direct from Wilton. Sometimes Michael's doesn't carry the item I want, then I'll order direct from Wilton.
Good luck and once you get past the nervousness, you'll have a blast!!
ugh...I called the store to speak with the education coordinator, and she is no longer working there. The lady that I sopke with asked me a ton of questions about being Wilton certified and whatever, and told me she'll call me after the first of the year to have me come fill out an application? I didn't think Wilton certified their teachers, and why do I have to apply twice? Is it possible to be placed by Wilton, and not hired by the store?

Yup coupons are great especially with no shipping costs, but I usually accumulate enough GC's throughout the year that I usally only pay for shipping or nothing at all when I order. But there is also all the freebies that you get at meetings as well. ![]()

Oh man that stinks! Wilton does not certify their teachers. Maybe she just wants you to come in a fill out a JoAnne's application? I know for Michael's, I am technically an employee and had to fill out the application and do their silly test.
All stores are different on how they handle "placement" of instructors and even within one company, things may be done differently. My supervisor approved me and just placed me. I know at another Michael's in my area, the store manager likes to interview the potentials (and that is a whole other story...). Were you contacted by a Wilton Supervisor about the position? Maybe give her a call to let her know what is going on--she may be abble to get the new EC up to speed on the process for that store.
The different accounts do things differently. If you want to teach you must go through Wilton first and not to the store in question. They will have you go through their application process then 'place' you into the store that has an opening. Some stories considered you independent contractors and other's consider you employees.
When I applied I know the Michaels had an opening because the previous instructor contacted me about it. When I was approved from Wilton I had to go to the store, fill out an application and have a background check done. I wasn't interviewed for the postion, but did have to do the paper work for it.
As was mentioned with Michaels you do have the 25% off because you are a store employee, but keep in mind that is not just on Wilton products but anything as long as it is not on sale. It is nice for those things that aren't really worth using a coupon on but something you need as well.
You do get 40% off directly from Wilton which is nice as well for items that are not found locally.
Wilton also gives you ways of earning Wilton Gift Certificates that can be used when ordering Wilton products as well as on a few other 'incentive' items. You also get free things here and there, like at the training meetings.
Teaching has it's pros and cons.
And they are different for different people.
how much do the teacher positions pay?
I have taught at General Motors Last Fall it was a 12 week course and I had to provide all the ciriculum(?) Anyhow it was a lot of work deciding what to teach. The company provided all the supplies and students purchased their own above that. They offered me $20 hour and settled on paying me $35. hour.
I was happy
