OK guys. Playing
advocate here. With all the recent recalls, etc, I am very picky about what I purchase. I was washing my wilton pans the other night and noticed the "made in China" on the bottom. Please understand that I, in no way, want to offend anyone, but after checking my cake cabinets, it looks like 90% of the items, including some of my luster dust, is made in China. Does anyone know of any recalls or tests on those products?
Note: I completely understand purchasing items from a cheaper vendor! I benefit through my investments! I didn't want this to turn into a China bashing post but I am now very leary about purchasing certain products where the gov't doesn't retrict additives, et.
Most of the things you can buy in the States or over in Europe are made in China, because they can be manufactured here cheaper. problem is though, that because the companies who get things made here press down the prices, the guys who make them, look for cheaper alternatives. It is up to the company who buys them to make sure, that the quality is ok. That is what quality control is all about. The guys over here want to live as well and sometimes the prices are pressed down so low, it's difficult to even for the chinese to make things for that price (my husband is in manufacturing things for the german market, so we're talking firsthand here) They want the quality but don't want to pay for it. The lower they can buy the stuff here, the more the importers earn off the things. Makes it difficult for people in China to make business sometimes. I can't even get most of the stuff you get, even though I live here, because it's all for export, I have to reimport the stuff, so I have to pay even more.
I definitely understand why the corporations want to lower prices b/c my bottom line benefits as well. I'm glad to hear directly from someone in China. Are there items that are made in China that come to the US or other countries that you have to REimport? That sounds difficult.
R u saying that the products manuf are not QC'd by the co producing them before exporting? I didn't realize that. And, just to ask - b/c I honestly do not know - are any of those same items not exported but distributed there? If so, r u guys dealing with the same recall issues? I was flabergasted last night when I checked out the US FDA site on the # of food recalls we have going on. And those are items that are supposed to be qc'd in the plants (here in US). It's amazing how many things slip through the cracks.
Usually the companies that order stuff from here have quality control. Some of the things that were recalled were recalled bc of design flaws, the chinese have no influence on that, they just make things according to specifications. And yes, you will always have black sheep, but not only here. It's not always a good idea to cut corners or trying to get the best deal, because that will make the manufacturer try to minimise his costs too. I have great difficulties getting clothes, shoes, caking stuff etc, cause those are either not sold in my size here and since Chinese don't bake, all that stuff gets sent out. I have to order from Europe or the States and get it sent here or if I am lucky I can get someone to lug it over for me (or do it myself when I am somewhere on holiday)
We have been living here for nigh on 5 yrs, and it doesn't get easier for the guys manufacturing here. In theory yes, the plants should have qc but the main resposibility is on the guys ordering the stuff to keep a close eye, especially if they don't have an expat here to keep an eye out. Our mother company keeps my husband here, but that is costly as well
