Still trying to get everything going with my home bakery (licensed) and have had several people ask me if I have a website. I'm not very savvy with computers, and my SIL suggested a MySpace page. Anyone have pros/cons vs buying a web page? Can MySpace be used for business use? Thanks so much!!!

Jessica
My daughter puts pictures of every cake we do on her my space and people can leave comments and email you about ordering them we have made quite a few cakes that way and it is free.To set up a website cost money not sure how much another idea I don't know where you are located but is Craigs list which is also free.Good luck with business.

I have a website through Yahoo. I pay 11.00 a month. It has driven alot of business my way! It is super easy! It has a tool on there to take you through all of the steps! I also went to www.decidio.com
You can advertise with them also. I have also done craig'slist. It is also very helpful! I have just recently placed something on Myspace, so we will see what happens. I hope all of this Helps!!!

You can get a free web page vs. a paid one... I'm with freewebs.com and although the only cons I've found with that is your address... (www.freewebs.com/ohmygoodiesco) unless you pay for your site you'll have a prefix of whatever your host name is...

Myspace won't deliver you enough traffic, to make it as your "website". I have a Myspace both personal and business and I don't get very many hits to my company page...

I do have a counter on my website and also signed up with Google Analytics which is a free service that tells you where and when your hits are coming from, such as a redirect hit from CC is my most popular currently, also direct hits from when I post a link in yahoo messenger, or someone hand types it in the address bar.

There are a few really inexpencive places you can get a paid website thru, you can go to Google and search Web Hosting or Low Cost Web Hosting or Cheap Web Hosting or Inexpensive Web Hosting... any or all should bring you back a lot of choices. I would figure out what the yearly costs are going to be for your to have a paid website and see if it's an investment you're ready and willing to make right now.

I wouldn't recommend Myspace being your sole "website" for your company, I WOULD recommend if you want to go with a free website for the time being to go with freewebs or another freebie, search Google for Free Web Hosting icon_wink.gif

Good luck and please post when you've created and let us see what you've created! icon_smile.gif

Myspace is ok as a SUPPLEMENT to a real website.. you want a real website with a proper (1st level .com address) domain for a professional image.

I personally won't click on a Myspace webpage, especially for a business. I can't stand all the flashing lights, the crazy backgrounds, the ads, etc. The cakes might be worth looking at, but I never get to them because of the overall look of the page. That's just my opinion though.

I use Homestead.com and only pay $4.99 per month for five pages. I also use Google Analytics to see where my hits are coming from. You can upload your pictures to Flickr and use that as your gallery, maybe as a link from a free web page. (I think indydebi has a link from her website to a Flickr account).
