So I sat down this morning to read messages and came across this tip. I just happen to be making a batch of butter BC right now and would love to try this. I'm making the buttercream dream recipe from here, just one batch. About how much violet do you use? Obviously I would start with a tiny amount and go from there but I don't have time or the ingredients I mess this particular batch up. Just looking for a little more detail to this great tip!
Thanks!

Thanks. That's what I'm thinking because I just finished the BC and it's not that yellow to begin with. I used Land-o-Lakes butter and it's fairly pale. By the time all the sugar was added, the yellow was even more pale.
I'm going to give it a shot now. icon_biggrin.gif

Just wondering how it turned out!!! If too much violet is added then the icing will start to take on a gray appearance!! I hope it turned out great!

When I saw this hint a while back, I just couldn't believe it so I tried it. The first batch I thought i had used the least amount possible and it looked lavender to me. I made half the roses for the Kissing Ball in my gallery(havn't figured out how to get a photo to attach to these replies) and they still looked lavender. I did the cake in stages and placed all the first roses on the bottom, let it set up and flipped it over and needed more flowers for the top. I made another batch and used a dot the size of the end of a small paint brush handle and it still looked too purple UNTIL.....i put those on the cake and viola the purple cast seemed to disappear to some extent and then....I took the photo and in that the roses seem to purely white...Go Figure!!

Thanks everyone. It's my SgtMaj cake in my pics. It worked. But, to be safe because like I said I didn't have the time or ingredients to ruin this particular batch, I scooped out a heaping teaspoon and put it in a seperate bowl. I put the amount of a small dot on the end of a tooth pick and when I mixed it, it looked barely violet to me. I panicked just a little icon_lol.gif but realized if i added that to the whole batch it would be much lighter. So that's what I did and I added just one tiny, tooth pick size drop more. In my kitchen it still looked yellow from the lighting so I took it outside where it was cloudy but daylight and it sure looked white to me! It looked white on the cake too. What a cool tip! icon_biggrin.gif
