Hi everyone....

I want to wrap a cake board, but don't have that special foil to wrap with.. I know that some people use wrapping paper, but what do you put over it to protect the cake???

Thanks in advance....

Contact paper.

Its the clear sticky stuff you can get at office supply stores.

You cut it bigger then your wrapping paper and stick it on.

Good Luck! HTH

Thank you very much mrstoponak ,

Is there a trick to it? Or the contact paper sticky on only one side?

Contact paper is only sticky on one side.

Its only sticky on one side...

What I do is...

1. Cut the wrapping paper to the correct size

2. Cut the contact paper to about 1 1/2 inch bigger

3. Peel just a little of the contact paper at a time, and stick the wrapping paper on as you go.

Hint: If you peel all the contact at once, it will roll back up on itsself and stick!

4. Cut the "slits" around the sides

5. I use some double sided tape in the middle of the board, under the paper, just for kicks

6. Stick on the contact paper covered wrapping paper

tada!

I get my clear contact paper at Walmart. I cover my board first with paper or fabric using scotch tape, then I cut out the contact paper, take the paper off the back, lay it sticky side up on the table, and lay the board upside down onto the contact paper, slit the sides and fold them down. I've never had the contact paper roll back up. I like using different fabrics to match the cake. I used to quilt, so I have quite a variety laying around!

If you don't have the contact paper just use the wrapping paper and put the cake on a cake board sized to perfect fit then hot glue that to your wrapping paper. I've done that before too. HTH

Thanks to an earlier suggestion on this forum, I've been using plastic wrap over wrapping paper. I used Glad Press and Seal yesterday and it worked well, though it is not as clear as plain plastic wrap.

I use shrink wrap for my boards.
