I was debating whether to share this one or not... But, I don't think it's too bad for my first time with mmf, there's just some things I would definately do different if I ever do one again! ![]()
Just a little background--I was viewing some photos and ran across one that bombarded me with inspiration so I just had to make it-the bathtub barbie! A friend was graduating college and was having an oyster roast and so I had to make it for her--she loved it, or seemed to at least...
I have to say mmf is a little tricky!
Well first off, being my first time, I thought that I might could get by using my small rolling pin--not so much--thus, the tile work on the tub... then I had read about using either powdered sugar or crisco to make sure the mmf didn't stick--loooong story short I think crisco seems to be the way to go...plus, I started at 11pm and ended at 5am--I went to bed not knowing what the cake really looked like because I started having double-vision! ![]()
But anyway, Trial and error seems to be the path of decorating and she's definately not as grand as the others I've seen on here, but here she is...

PLEASE post comments--I could really use the constructive critisism (sp) and tips if anyone has any...I know the 'lip' of the tub is totally uneven and the floor is 'lumpy' and the fauset looks a little odd but dh did that part (he wanted to help)... I don't know, maybe I'm just picking it to death--that's what DH always says anyway!
Lol! I think you're just "picking it to death" like you said. It's amazing! I only WISH I could sculpt that well! And this was your first try!!! All I can say is WOW!
I doubt anyone would have noticed any mistakes(if you'd even call them mistakes) if you hadn't pointed them out! Great Job!!!
I love your bathtub barbie. She is awesome....I'm about to have my first experience with mmf in about three hours, so I hope it goes as well as yours did. About the DH wanting to help.....I understand completely, mine is always grabbing some fondant and trying to do something.
I have to agree with everyone here!! We are our own worse enemies, ie..thinking the things we do are just not good enough. I think you cake looks absolutely awesome, unbelievable for your first time...I would have never guessed it was your first! Jen
That is a lovely cake and I love the luxurious look of that bath mat!
Can I ask, what is mmf? I come from the UK and although I can work out some of the abbreviations, others are beyond me... my brain is currently rattling round my head like a pea in a tin can!
With many thanks
Glorious Twelfth
I think the cake and idea is great! The design looks awesome too! But for the most, if this is your first time with MMF, my hat is off to ya!
One thing about the tub tiling. This one could have been scribed on, even with the checkered areas, those could have been painted tiles, would have been time savers. Especially when you are forced to work the wee hours of the morning. I've done this a few times myself.
Wow! Lovely! I just might take your idea and play with it someday. It is a fantastic idea for a woman retiring. Or a young lady's birthday.

Well, I have to confess, it wasn't my original idea... I think Amybeth was the originator of the idea and then I've seen a few follow (as I did), but I did really enjoy doing it and I enjoy looking at all the beautiful cakes on the site for insperation...
Anyway, THANK YOU ALL for your comments!!
I think you did an amazing job, first time with mmf or not! I love the fuzzy look of the rug and the bubbles are all perfect. You did great!!!
