Need Help Babysitter Stole My Sugarcookies! (Long)
Decorating By aubrazacmom Updated 20 Dec 2006 , 1:59pm by aubrazacmom
I just made approx. 2 doz. sugarcookies for my daughters nursery school party on Tues. I put them in the freezer in a container and was going to pull them out to unthaw on Monday. Well, I got into my freezer for something and I noticed the container was GONE the whole container cookies and all. I was in Boston since last Thursday and just returned Sunday. I immediately looked at my DH like I was going to kill him and he stated that he didn't touch them. The only other person that had access to them was my babysitter, so I called her to ask if she had seen my cookies and she said no. Well, I have hunted this house from top to bottom, inside and out and there are no cookies. I spent so long making these cookies it's not even funny - I had made snowflakes all frosted and decorated and really put my heart into them because my daughter was just so excited that mommy was making cookies for her class. I'm sorry all I have done is cried because I feel so betrayed. I can't prove that it was my babysitter but just recentlly she's started acting different and not as reliable as before and her whole demener has changed and I also know that the cookies didn't just grow legs and disappear with the container. I know I have to move on and get over it but I'm just very hurt.
So, anyways does anyone know of a icing recipe that is quick drying. I am going to come home from work tomorrow make new cookies and frost and decorate but will need to be ready for my daughters class on Tuesday morning. Looks like no sleep for me!!
Sorry, this was so long but I just don't know what to do!!
First, I am so sorry that your cookies went MIA. But they must have been really yummy for them all to disappear like that! ![]()
I know I've probably said this a million times, but try MMF on your cookies. It is sooooo easy and they turn out beautiful. I cut out the MMF with the same cookie cutter used to make the cookies. Then I pop a tray of MMF cutouts in the fridge while the cookies are baking. As soon as the cookies come out of the oven, put your MMF cutout on top - and voila - you have a great cookie. The kids love them and they couldn't be any easier.
I just did some snowflake ones where I mixed in a little blue food color to my white MMF - but didn't mix it all the way in so it had a "swirled" effect to them. It turned out really nice. I used the Wilton Fondant Icing Writers to "pipe" on added detail and also used the silver dragees. I think they turned out very nice, and best of all they were done fast.
Hope that helps & good luck!!
Thanks for the advice that is actually just what I was thinking of doing! Hopefully, they will turn out ok.
Thanks again!
Another option, although not as nice, would be to coat the cookies in white sanding sugar before baking (I drop them in the sugar to coat) then just pipe on the blue lines for a star design. Tried that last nite and was pleased with the way they turned out, considering I have a ton of them to do.
BTW, if the babysitter is acting strange, trust your gut feeling and start looking for another one!

I agree with Deb, do you want to entrust your children with someone who can't be trusted with cookies? It may all be a horrible mistake and they may turn up - nevertheless if you have a bad gut feeling about her you should trust in that.
I agree, find a new babysitter. Good luck with the cookies!
Our "gut feelings" tell us more than we want to know sometimes. ![]()
But unfortunetly they are usually right on the mark. So chock it up to experience and I really like the mmf and cookie deco idea. As for sitter.....well Merry Christmas and hope you enjoy them Lady! ![]()
Deff do not let back in your house or around your babys, sounds as if there are some not so good things going on in her life and you need not let that creep into yours.
So sorry you had to experience this. ![]()
Got my fingers crossed for you and those adorable cookies you got in ya!!!! ![]()
I too am sorry your cookies ended up MIA! I do not know what I would have done to my babysitter???
Last night I had to make 3 dozen cookies for my daughter's cookie exchange party today. I had know of this cooke exchange party for over 2 weeks. Last night I was kicking myself in the rear, upset because I waited till the last minute to make her cookies. You are not going to beleive this, but I too made sugar cookies in the shape of snowflakes. I covered them in white royal icing with baby blue in-lining. (making the stems) They turned out too cute! ( If I do say so myself) Now that I am reading your story, I am glad I made them late. Had I made them early and somehow they would have ended up missing, Everyone in my household would have felt the wrath. I feel for you. Hope you find your cookie thief.

How old is your babysitter? If she is younger and lives with parents I would call when she is not home and ask a parent about picking up my container just to see if it is there.
So sorry it happend. I just noticed that 2 dozen of my peanut butter balls I am making for gifts are missing. My family things they are munchies apparently!
I also use MMF on my cookies and everyone loves the taste, the best part is if you cut with the same cookie cutter you get perfect shapes on top of your cookies + with you can color your cookie decorations with an edible pen, RI, etc.
Mconrey - are the icing writers you are referencing the edible ink pens or is it the icing in that little tube? If it's the icing in the little tube - does that icing taste good and dry fast?
The icing writers from Wilton and they're called "Fondant Icing Writers." I got mine at Michaels and they had 7-8 different colors. They're are in a tube, but not next to the regular tube icing. These were next to all the fondant supplies. They have a fine tip and you just sqeeze to decorate. It really is like thin fondant and gives the cookie a 3D effect kinda like puffy shirt paint. They take a few hours to dry completely and the taste blends in with the MMF. I haven't noticed the typical yucky Wilton fondant taste.

mconrey - thanks so much; that is exactly what i thought it was and i have been meaning to use these icing writers but wasn't too sure if they were like liquid or edible ink - but now that i know i am going to try it - it must make for so much easier decorating with the fondant.
Thanks everyone for your comments. My babysitter was like a member of my family she has been babysitting for me for 2 - 3 yrs quite often. I have gone away and left my children with her (my husband was home just working during the day) and felt very comfortable my kids love her (that's the hardest part). I feel very hurt and wish she just would of asked me if she could have them for her church party or for gifts (I'm not sure what she did with them). She has been going thru a hard time since her boyfriend went off to a college (She's 19 or 20) and has no money. I think that's probably why she took them is for gifts. I've turned my house upside down looking for them and I know my DH didn't do it because he saw how ticked and upset I was when I found out they were missing I know he never would of let me be like that if he had eaten them. She will not be babysitting for me ever again and I'm just trying to figure out what I will say to my kids. I will wait till after the holdiays to address because they deserve to have a good Chritmas without being sad about the babysitter.
Thanks again for all your comments and help - I really appreciate it.
