Well I delivered my 1st wedding cake over the weekend. It was really stressfull as the bride was not really specific in what she wanted. Im always nervous that what looks good to me, is not another ones cup-of-tea.

The venue where they had the wedding was beautifull, the staff not very friendly thou. Its a working farm that they are busy converting to have really rural weddings, so the reception hall was covered in flies. The manager/owner was not impressed that someone else was doing the cake so he was so unhelpfull. After setting up the cake & getting the kids to shoo away the flies so I could take a few photos, I asked for something to cover the cake with. He said he was going to spray some insecticide over the cake soon, I musnt worry icon_eek.gif . Well he saw the look on my face and went scurrying off to get a netting. They were also supposed to have some fary light under the fabric, but the MOB had to go and ask hime where it was. He just told me he's not putting lights up there. icon_mad.gif
Well everything turned out beautifull, the wedding was stunning and I got a whole lot of compliments on my cake. Even a few enquieries icon_biggrin.gif

Congrats on your first wedding cake. It looks beautiful. What kind of person sprays insecticides on a wedding cake? Is he trying to poison them? Geesh!

That's an excellent cake. The ppl at the recept. hall were obviously jealous of your talent.

Your wedding cake is beautiful...

Now that you've done your first one, I'm sure many more will be added to your gallery of beautiful cakes.

BTW, if the crack about the bug spray was supposed to be funny - the manager/owner sorely missed the mark; he was just being a jerk!

Beautiful. Sleek and lovely.

I've dealt with people who are "unfriendly" at reception venues, too. I personally think they're that way because THEY didn't get the bid on the cake(s). thumbsdown.gif

Did you tell your cake client what the manager said about spraying insecticide?

Riana:

The cake is INCREDIBLE!!! GREAT JOB!! While I was reading your post I could just imagine the scene and it made me "homesick" to visit South Africa! S.A.A. is offering a "Buddy Rate" for 1300.00 US now! THAT'S CHEAP! Now, what's your address? LOLL

thanks for the lovely compliments!

and yes the man was serious about the bug spray, I did mention it to the groom, DH's best buddy, and he said the caterer was upset because he wasnt doing the cake. He gave them a quote, but was not prepared to do a stacked cake, and stacked was what the bride wanted! So Im sure it was a case of seriously sour grapes icon_biggrin.gif

Bethola, ur more than welcome to come and visit, we can chat cakes all day icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

What a beautiful cake, and envy can do bad things to a person, so I wouldn't worry about it! And man, that guy is gonna have his place shut down from insecticide on food, lol. Jen

Great cake!!!

I still can't believe he was going to spray that on the cake.

And, if he was upset over not doing the cake, well...personally it makes me wonder how he would treat a cake he made himself.

Looks wonderful to me! Wow and if someone ever told me they were going to spray my painstakingly created art with insecticide, I would go after them with a cake server!
