X-Post: What About A "debate Forum"?
Decorating By Derby Updated 23 Dec 2006 , 2:24am by mysonshines
Sorry again...I feel like I'm hijacking my own thread!
I just want to make sure that I'm understood. I do LOVE ALL OF YOU CAKERS!!!
and...ohmygoodness...I want to tell all of the MODERATORS that I'm not implying in the LEAST that you aren't doing an outstanding job. I'm just brainstorming for ideas. Thanks for your support and patience!!!!
Thank you angelas2babies for your reply!
Here are some of my responses:
Even if there are alot of repeat threads about common topics that most of don't even want to go near, there are new people and new insight, and debating the merits of something is not a bad thing. If there's a topic you're bored with, then don't look at it. This site evolves, and as long as we're respectful of each other, it is possible to disagree with someone. It's not the end of the world.
Just to clarify...I LOVE the constructive debates that we are all here to participate in and learn from. But, not every topic is titled so that the potential reader would know to avoid it. I also don't think that we all have to agree. I just think that the debates routinely go overboard. And I would think that many members would love to read the debates to learn, too.
Certainly it's not the end of the world.
But, on other boards with the same basic pretense of community, this feature has been a really great tool. I just thought that since it has been successful for other boards, that I'd just bring it up as an idea here.
As a relative newbie, I'll jump in and say I like the idea
I don't fully understand CC yet, but love it and am impressed with how many skilled, informative and helpful people are here! I have noticed a few "grumpy" people who seem to like to stir things up and detract from the otherwise supportive and kind environment. I think you will always have some people with this kind of nature and maybe an outlet for sparring will keep it contained? I recently went to a debate forum at a friend's suggestion (not cake related) OMG was it vicious. I couldn't stand it but apparently the regulars there thrived.
