Hello everyone! I am trying to prep my stuff ahead of time for next weekend. I have to have two cross cakes for next sunday! Iwas thinking about making the cakes sometime between today and friday! I was wondering about freezing them, what do you wrap your cakes in to freeze them? I was also wondering about the recipe extender. I know I saw it on here can't seem to find it, does anyone have the link? I was also wondering about leveling the cakes. I bought a cake leveler but it just doesn't seem to be sharp or I am not doing something right with it, any input on that? Thank in advance for the input!
To wrap your cakes, use 2 layers of plastic wrap and one layer of foil on top of that. The extender recipe can be found by clicking on the "recipes" tab, then in the search bar type "extender", click "search" and it should come up. For leveling, I like to use serrated knife. After the cake has cooled for 10 minutes in the pan, shake it back and forth to loosen it in the pan. Once loosened, take the knife and use the top of the cake pan as a guide for leveling the cake. I bought the leveler too and then found this method and haven't used the thing since.

Yep, wrap'em in saran wrap, then foil.
As for your leveler, with mine I have to help it into the cake at first, then work it back and forth alot as I push it thru the cake. Ya pretty much get what ya pay for with the levelers. The ones over a hundred bucks are awesome.![]()
i use the leveler a lot. what i do to start it is, once i've marked my height, i make a small cut in the corner with a serrated knife. i only go in about a knife blade's worth. that gives me a place to slide the wire into. then i cut sort of diagonally into the cake. this means i'm not cutting through the harder edges head-on, but from an angle. that seems to tear them a little less. i don't go all the way through the cake though, it'll tear out the end corner. when i get about 1/2" from being through, i carefully back out the leveller and cut through the last 1/2" with a knife from the attached side.
you do the same thing in woodworking, if you don't want splinters on the end of your cut, you back out and cut from the end back toward the start. gives you two smooth sides.
