I hope someone out there can help me. I'm trying to make a Belle cake for my daughter's birthday & it's not baking right. I used a cake mix & the extender recipe found her on CC. I baked in the Wonder Mold for 55 minutes at 350 & thought it was done. It turns out that only about 2 inches of of the outer area was baked through. I tried using my kitchen aid bowl yesterday. Used the same recipe (although maybe a little more batter) and baked it at 325 for 2 hours & it still only cooked about 2 inches from the outside in with a foil strip for a heating core.

What am I doing wrong? I've never had such problems with a cake and am getting very nervous! Someone out there please help!

I have used a pyrex measuring bowl. It has been along time but I do remember baking it at 325 and it took forever. I didn't use a coil of any kind but just kept testing it every 10 minutes until it was done. Your problem is probably the foil for a heating coil. It probably just isn't conducing heat well. Have you tried a flower nail? That MIGHT work better but no guarantees!

I would find something else to use as a heating core - maybe a soup can if nothing else. Or go to the hardware store and see if they have some kind of pipe that would do the trick.

Well now that I have spent the money on the Wonder Mold I want to use it but even with the heating core I don't see anyway it could be done in 60 minutes & if I cook it much longer the top corners will be overdone.

Any thoughts? I'm getting frantic!

The wonder mold comes with a heating conductor rod in the middle, did you have that in? After 2 hrs the cake should have been done, or your oven doesn't reach the right temp. Have you checked that?

Ok, the first try I used the Kitchen Aid bowl & a piece of foil. The second try I used the Wonder Mold w/ the conductor. Both flops.

I'm on try three right now. My cake is in the oven at 325 in the Wonder Mold w/ the heat conductor. I also wrapped a damp towel around the mold to help it bake even. So far so good. It is baking very evenly. It has been in for 1 hr 20 minutes so far and I am checking it every 10 minutes. I will probably put a piece of foil over the top at the next check if it is not done. I want to be sure the top doesn't overcook.

My daughter is very excited about this cake so I dont' want to disappoint her.

It took 1 hr 50 minutes but the cake turned out okay. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. I'll take pictures at the party today and try to post them later.

Thanks!
