Question....I have made a frosting that is like a custard/buttercream. It is made with 6 egg yolks, sugar, white chocolate, cream and 2 sticks of butter. Needless to say, it is yellower than I had planned or even thought of.

I would prefer this to be white, given what the theme is. Do you guys think that if I put white icing coloring into it it would A. ruin the consistency and taste, and B even work to make it whiter?

I was hoping to frost tonight, but if you all think the white coloring may work, I'll have to go and buy some in the AM. Yeah...shopping on Saturday before x-mas in the hugest plaza in the area! JOY!

Try adding a tiny touch of violet to it.

I have used the white icing color to make mine white. It was a more ivory color when I was done and it made it white white and still tasted wonderful.

I really hope I am correct but I think I read here that if you add violet (just a teeny bit) it will make it look whiter.
Wilton has a product that will whiten icing too..can't think of the name but it is at Michaels in Canada so you must have it for sure in the US.

Sorry I couldn't be more help..

I actually did just that today. You can add the white to make it as white as you want. Just remember to add a little at a time, you can always add more and will be able to check the consistency along the way. Although, I didn't have any problem with it changing the consistency. HTH

Dang, you've already made this frosting. Shucks, I would have gone with a different recipe that would be more white instead of using the recipe with the egg yolks in it. But that's just me hun. You can try the ol' coupla drops of purple in it but then if it's really yellow you'll end up with a light tannish gold color instead.

Thank you guys for all the help. I actually bought some bright white when the CC sale was in Oct (Duh, I forgot!!). I decided to use it for the filling...it tastes GREAT!! But, before I do, I will add some white to a bit, and some violet to a bit...just to see what will happen. Since it is filling, I think it will be okay.

THANK YOU for all the help. Sorry to have seemed so desperate icon_redface.gif

The violet does work, just add a tiny touch at a time until you're happy with the result
