I spent a lot of time making the Nemo cake (in my photos). The coral is royal icing. The party is tomorrow at 6pm. Did I seriously screw up putting them on the cake now? Will my buttercream make them dissolve or break?

I've put royal icing roses on top of a cake before, but not sunk into the icing. I just got it all boxed up.....got to tote that thing 20 miles to the client tomorrow am.


Please don't ask why I didn't think about this until now. It's already making my head hurt...

I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you....haven't really worked with RI.....but I did want to say that your cake is great!!!!

Is there any way you can take them out just to be 100% safe?? I've done that with flowers, sunk in BC and they lasted about 24 hours, then the back of them started to show like "wet" spots from all the fat being absorbed. HTH and so sorry this happed, maybe you can still do something about it, remove them and re-place them tomorrow. Good luck and HTH.

I agree, you should take them out. They will soak up grease. Your cake is so cute! I love it. Let us know how it turns out!!!

Whenever I have standing royal icing pieces, I mount them to a lollipop stick or toothpick with royal icing, then insert the stick into the cake. That way, the piece only lightly touches the buttercream. It's not too late for you to do this. Your cake is adorable!!
