Ok so I'm sure this is a topic that has been submitted numerous times however either I'm not doing the search thing correctly or I'm just blind. (Honestly could be either one!)
I've just gotten the all clear on my inspection so now my not so publicized/promoted cake business is about to get an overhaul. In doing this I need to make sure that my prices are ok or do you think they should be high and or lower. I'm clueless and like many others I'm sure I'm not pricing correctly.
So please any advice would be greatly greatly appreciated:

Well, you are cheap, cheap, cheap compared to me lol! I won't turn on the oven for less than $40 regardless of size of order. It's just not worth the time to do so otherwise.
My party cakes run anywhere from $2.50 - $10 per serving, and wedding cakes from $3.50 and up.
Well, one thing that indydebi has and it validated my way of thinking, is that I charge the same per serving price whether it's for a wedding or a birthday party. The thing that MAY bump up a wedding cake is the fountail and cake stand rental.
HTH & GOOD LUCK!!!
you seem to charge a lot for cupcakes but short yourself on other areas. i would up your proces a couple dollars.
i charge $50 for a 12x18 (havent yet but thats my price)
bascially after that i charge 1.50 for buttercream not stacked
2.00 for stacked
3.00 for fondant
cupcakes are a $1.00 for a standard swirl cupcake (minimum 12)
only you can determine what your time is worth. have you costed out your recipes? your packaging materials (boards, boxes, dowels, ribbon, etc)? your utilities? have you determined that selling an 20-24 serving 8 inch cake for $20 gives you enough profit to make the 2-4 hours of work involved worth it? (for me it wouldn't be).
i've done the above, and determined that for me its not worth turning on the oven for less than $50. thats my minimum order amount. i charge $2.50 per serving for buttercream, and $3.00 per serving for fondant. (starting prices, additional decor could up the price). i don't sell sheet cakes. all my cakes are 4 inches tall, have three layers of filling, and are baked from scratch. this information however, may not be right for you. only you know what your costs are, what your profit goals are, and how much time it takes to complete a cake.
Are your sheet cakes double layered or single??? I've also been trying to work on my pricing, and buy the sound of things I'm really under charging. I'm always so worried about my prices being high, but I've been working so hard that I really think "I'M WORTH MORE!!"
