Ok, I am about to re-do my web site. I am putting the into 4 sections
1. wedding cakes
2. shower/grooms cakes
3.birthday cakes
4. special occations cakes

Now may question is...how many pictures do you all think I should put in each section..should I put all the cakes I have done? That would be a ton of pictures. I am afraid that it will be too much, cake overload, ya know. Right now I have a few and I rotate them out according to seasons....But my friedns say put them all up?? What do other cake pals think?

Thanks

Hmmm...

Well, this is my favorite website because there a ton of cakes, plus she lists the sizes, how many people they serve, and the price.

People like to look at cakes, so I say if not all, at least the majority of your favorites icon_smile.gif

I put all of mine up, but I don't think I have too many. I also have more catergories than you. (Feel free to check out my site.)

Anyway, if you don't want to put up all of the photos, put up what you consider to be the best ones of each category.

I'm new to cake decorating, but I don't think I would use all of your pictures-I think it would be too much, like you said. Maybe choose your favorites, your most popular designs and a few seasonal choices. Plus a few uniques ones that will stand out and be memorable. And maybe you could indicate that there are many more designs avaialble and to schedule an appointment to review your portfolio if they don't see what they're looking for.

Hope that helps!

I would put up the ones that you are proud of and that look impressive. If you have a ton of those, put them all up! But I wouldn't put a bunch of cake pictures up that are done in the same style.

I agree with cmyoung5, put up your best and your favorites and notate that a portfolio with more pics is available upon request. And ask for feedback from your customers, ask if they liked the amount they saw if they wanted to see more and go from there. icon_smile.gif

I actually had a mother of the bride tell me just last week that the reason she liked my website is because of all the pictures. She liked seeing all the different ways cakes can be done, displayed and the different ways foods can be set up.

My website is limited to the number of pics I can put on there, so I have a supplemental website on Flickr, where I can put unlimited pics. I have a link in my "real" website that takes brides to the Flickr site, where they can see ALL the pics.

I have lots of square-cakes-set-askew (same style) but they are different flowers, different decors. Brides have told me they like seeing different ways that the same cake can look different.

In this case, more IS better.

If you are looking for an exact number, I'd say no less than 25 per section. When I'm looking up someones site, I like to see a LOT of cakes. The only downfall of that is if they don't know how to process their photos for the web and the files are large and they take forever to load. Anyway, more is better in my opinion.

One of my favorite sites is: http://www.freedsbakery.com/home

I know this is ot but I think you should charge more for your cakes. They are really creative and I can't imagine the time you put into them and you've got them priced for less than a $1 a serving. You don't want to under sell your self. But other than that I like you site, I don't think you can have too many pics, when I browse a site I like to see a bunch of examples.

My goodness...Yes! Raise your prices! I would say almost double!

Well how many pictures are we talking? I would put them all up unless there are pages and pages and pages of them. In that case I might remove some that don't reflect your current abilities.
