I am making a 50th Anniversary cake for tomorrow. I bought one of those thick Wilton bases and recovered it in gold. I bought a 16 inch but I am just doing a 12 inch and a 8 inch stacked cake. Is this base going to be too big? I don't want it to look awkward...but I am working today and live 60 miles from the closest place to get the 14inch...opinions please!!

Are you putting the cake directly on the stand? If not then you will have a 13 or 14 inch cakeboard and the cake will have a boarder so that leaves just 2 inches showing I don't think that will look to big.

Yes the 12 inch cake will go directly on the "stand". I am thinking that by the time I get the boarder on it will only leave me a little more than an inch...I just get paranoid!! Especially when I have a special cake and I have to work the day before!! I am baking tonight and decorating tomorrow morning. The party is at 5pm, so there is really no time to buy the 14in anyway!! But my DH has been known to make missions for me!! Thanks!

I agree not too big at all. I like to have some leeway around the cake.
