I am going to make a 3 tiered stacked cake. Will a masonite board work or should I get some plywood cut? I want to make sure there is no bend.
my fiance said you should use MDF (medium density fiberboard) it is sawdust compressed into sheets like plywood...it is really sturdy and you can get it in quarter inch and half inch and other stuff....they sell it at home dept and lowes and everything...HTH
we always use it for my cakes, he said it makes really straight cuts, no splinters, easy to work with, and he thinks masonite will bend...(we used to work with masonite at our skateboard park and it is pretty bendable)
katleg, your avatar is so cute! And funny!!
I've used masonite boards in the past and I think I did use that medium density fiberboard once - I just asked someone at Home Depot what they thought I should use for carrying a heavy cake
Got some strange looks for a moment but they were helpful. And they even cut it to size for you - I don't know if they'd do a round shape - anyone ask them to do that before? But they did cut it in the rectangular shape it was in - made it the right size I needed I mean - cut off the excess.
Good luck. HTH
I love my masonite boards.
I would think cutting the wood yourself you may get wood dust on your cake.
Ok, some of you are saying "is she a dummy".
But, you never know there may a little splinner come out ot the wood.
I'm just thinking - my husband tells me I shouldn't do that.
i never cut whatever im using around my cake at all...and i usually sand the edges...then cover the board with cloth or mmf or something..
if you cut masonite, mdf, or wood it will have some sort of sawdust or shavings that will be floating around
what size (thickness) masonite do you ladies use? and it doesnt bend on ya'll?
