Here's an article on making royal icing that might help you get the correct consistency (from your mix):

I use the mix (by CK products) all the time and I love it. The water amount is only a recommendation and the amount will vary depending upon the humidity. I usually wind up adding water a few drops at a time until I get the consistency I like to work with. I generally prefer it smooth & creamy and not so thick that the mixer strains. It takes anywhere form 7 to 10 mins. to get it that way.

I usually start with very stiff one. I add the colour first then water by drops adjust it accordingly. For outline: stir the icing, count to 10, the pattern should stay. For flooding, the pattern should disappear. HTH.

I have another question so I am gluing gumpaste together. The icing that (finally) made stiff peaks in the mixer is too thick to go through a size 4 tip easily...so can I just add a lil water to the bowl and stir OR will this not be strong enough to glue gumpaste. Making a dresser so think gingerbread house type construction.

You guys are lifesavers! Thanks...really

Yes, you can thin it with a bit of water. It'll be fine.
