I am doing a wedding cake this weekend and the bride wants all the tiers covered in white MMF.
On the bottom tier she wants pink fondant accents. The middle tier will be a plain solid color (pink) of MMF and on the top tier she wants cornelli lace on the MMF.

So which is better to use for the cornelli lace....buttercream or royal icing?

Here's a bump. I'm interested in the answer, too. I have a cake ready for decoration and was planning on using RI as part of the decorating. I always worry when using RI. (I've had success with RI on MMF, but was very careful not to have Crisco on the exterior.)

ooooh true. I didn't even think about having the crisco on the outside.

I don't know how to avoid that exactly. When I roll out such big sheets of MMF I always use a dab of Crisco on the mat so it won't stick.

Anyone know the answer?

I'm sure going to find out tomorrow morning. That's when RI will be piped.

I have used both icings on MMF and both work great! The only thing is that if you leave RI for too long it might break, the crisco will get to it, but if you decorate before the event you should be fine. If it will be awhile before you serve the cake, then just be safe and use buttercream. HTH.

I think I'll make up buttercream, sounds safer. Thanks.
