Is It Me Or Does All Fondant Taste The Same?

So I've tried the Wilton's fondant, made my own MMF, and most recently made Toba Garrett's fondant. I hate to say it, but they all taste pretty much the same! My DH tried the Wilton's and then when he tried the MMF thought I had used the same kind twice. Then when I made TG's fondant, his reply was "eh..." (and I kinda had to agree!) Did I do something wrong making these?

did you flavor the home made ones, and is it the consistancy that is turning you off. For really good tasting fondant you could try choco-pan It is 1/2 chocolate and very tasty although its somewhat softer then regular fondant it is still chewy like they are.

I've only tasted Wilton and Fondx and Fondx is MUCH better than Wilton - not even in the same league. I could tell the difference right away with just how the two smell - Fondx is much more pleasant on the senses.

I've never made my own fondant to know any pther differences.

There' s no excuse for Toba's fondant to taste "eh", since you have the option to flavor it when mixing! I love it!! I can't bear to bring Wilton or Pettinice near my lips. Just the thought gags me. But I love Toba's fondant!! I use real Madagascar vanilla extract in mine for vanilla, and real extracts and oils for other flavors. I can't wait to make some peppermint fondant for holiday chocolate cookies! Yum! Don't skimp of the quality of flavorings!

I have only used Wilton and MMF and I could definitely notice the difference. I have a bucket of Satin Ice that was just delivered though. Will be taking it out to try tomorrow, hopefully much better than Wilton icon_lol.gif

Funny though I made two batches of the no fail sugar cookies today. One with the Creme Bouquet added and the other with just plain vanilla. Had three people try them and nobody could tell the difference between the cookies. Maybe I didn't add enough of the Creme Bouquet but I was afraid of it being too strong.

Geraldine Randlesome's fondant is very good IMO. I typically don't like the taste or the consistency of fondant, but found myself eating my scraps in one of her classes. I was just on her website pricing it (breaks down to about $3.20 per pound-not including shipping). Check it out www.creativecutters.com. The chocolate was sooooo good.

Well maybe it's something I did when I made it. I did flavor it but I used vanilla b/c I thought that would go best w/ my cake. I still thought it kinda tasted like MMF and Wiltons...oh well. I'll keep practicing and maybe try some others out.
