I am doing a "graffiti skatepark" cake for my son's birthday this weekend and need some information on the Wilton spray icing.

1. Will I be able to get the "spray paint" look from it?
2. Will I be able to write "Happy Birthday" in a fairly controlled and small area?

Thanks for any help you may be able to offer. I wish I had an airbrush system at times like this icon_smile.gif

I, too, don't have an airbrush system, and unfortunately can't afford one right now. I used the Wilton spray color once and won't again. It got all over the place. The overspray was crazy. And it didn't color evenly, IMO. But then again, maybe I was using it wrong, it's been known to happen. icon_confused.gif

I used the Wilton spray for some camoflauge cupcakes I did. Very unhappy with the black! I couldn't get the dark lines like I wanted, just an all-over spray and it ended up being more grey than black.

I actually prefer the spray they sell at the grocery store, plus it's alot cheaper and it comes out in more of a stream.

I'm not sure you would be able to write happy birthday, but you could try. It's def. better than the wilton stuff and it doesn't smell like chemicals as bad either! Good luck!

I used the blue spray once, I think you probably sprayed ok or I did it wrong too. The spray went all over. I used it to make a sky, so I was painting a large area but it went off the cake. My family didn't like it because it also had a mint flavor to it and they didn't like it.

Hi!! I've used the Wilton Spray before and it will give you the "spray paint" look, but you can't use it to write Happy Birthday (not unless you're really, really good and you need to show me how to do it icon_lol.gif )!! It's basically good for an overall spray; I've actually used it to make a cloud effect, but that's the most I've done with it out side of spraying the whole cake.

i would suggest to use a stencil if youare trying to spray with this can...cause it does spray all over..But if you make a stencil...then you can control it better!

Just a thought about using this. What about trying the little straw thingy that comes on a can of air that you use to clean your pc with? Maybe it would direct the spray in a more confined area.

If it works, let me know TIA

I might be worried that the color will run instead of spraying..Those who have used the wilton spray know they can be a lilttle runny already!

I tried the black and it was horrible the pink isnt to bad just have enough room so it cant get on anything else, unless the cake is big i dont think you can write Happy Birthday on it. it goes everwhere

Thank you for your input everyone. It helped me decide to change the plan and do a different scheme, which my son says will be just fine.

Thank you again.
