I airbrushed for the first time this weekend and was pleased, except the airbrush made the fondant sticky. I guess it has a base of water. Some of my gumpast decorations absrbed that water and went limp (it worked out well, because it was a creepy cake)............ANYWAY.....can I mix with vodka or extract to help, or do they make any alcohol based colors.....am I maybe spraying too close?
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!!

I used my airbrush on my last cake and had no stickiness issues. I had to do it in layers, though. It was black and red, and needed several layers to cover it all smoothly. I think if you do light coats and let it dry between, you will be ok.

ok! icon_biggrin.gif Yes, it was my first time and I probably rushed it. Did you end up with a matte or shiny look? Mine was shiny. It worked, but won't work for the next one......... you can click to view my pics and see what I am talking abouticon_smile.gif THANK YOU!

Mine had a matte finish. I do think that I got shiny spots when I was too close to the cake with my airbrush.....I was putting too much on in one spot. (I had to do it over...) Now when I need a smooth solid matte covering, I hold my airbrush about 8 inches away and do a light covering and allow it to dry in between coats. I'm sure there are a bunch of pro's on CC who have some more advice...mine is from the "been there, screwed that up" school.

BTW, your cake is really unique and very cool.
