I finally tried using a flower nail as a heating core, but it left a wonderful gray spot behind in the cake!

Was I supposed to treat it with something first? Is there a certain type of nail I should be using? (I hate using Wiltons heating core!)

I just put some of the cake release on it when I'm greasing my pans, and that usually does it for me. icon_smile.gif

I use the flower nails, too.
I cut parchment circles to fit cake pans and stick nails through the paper and brush with pan coat-the nail head is not touching the cake. The parchment is between the nail head and the cake. Especially the larger tiers- I use five nails-one in the center and the other four around. Fold parchment in half and then fold again to place nails evenly to conduct heat to bake cake.

I sprayed them with Pam...

So am I the only one who had this problem? I used them on WASC, all of the cakes I baked that day have a gray spot where the nail was icon_sad.gif
