Yesterday I baked a 2"x9"x13" cake for 1 hour and 15 minutes at 325 degrees on the convection oven setting as I usually do. When I cut this cake open today to fill it, to my surprise
the cake was not cooked as it had doughy parts throughout. I even did the knife test and it came out clean.
I checked the Wilton Yearbook and they suggest it should only take 45 minutes at 350 degrees but the cake was nowhere close to being finished at 45 mins.
In the meantime, I had to throw the cake out and am now rebaking it probably for 2 hours?!?! to fill an upcoming order but does anyone know what I did wrong? I baked this cake at least 10 times before and never had this problem. Please help.
Anyone?....is there another way to check for doneness?
It's now 2 hours later on this 2nd cake and I can see the cake is now pulling in from the edges and is pretty brown however, the centre is cracked and peeping in it appears to be cooked but again I did the knife test and it came out clean.
I think I'll keep it in there for another 15 mins to be safe. Making the total baking time 2hrs and 15mins!!!! ![]()
The upsetting part is that this is a brand new oven manufactured by KitchenAid that I paid over $1,500 CDN for.
I figured I have the mixer so why not get the matching stove since baking is my passion. It's worked well for the past 4 months but this was a 1st and I even preheated as always and double checked the temperature and setting. Looks like I'll be calling KitchenAid tomorrow as well.
