80Th Birthday Help Needed, Please!

I have been asked to do a cake for my Aunt's 80th Surprise Party coming up in January. She is an avid seamstress, so I have an idea I'm working on and need some help. I have pictured in my head making a cake using stacked 8" square layers to resemble a sewing box. I would like to make a partially opened lid with "sewing supplies" showing. Any pictures/suggestoins would be greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone!!

It would be great to have it open with the hinges showing. If you did the top styrofoam covered in fondant it would be lightweight and the support could come from the hinges. Use popsicle sticks covered in fondant to look like hinges to hold it up.
Thanks JanH and patticakesnc! All wonderful ideas. I had thought that a layer of cake proped up for the lid would be too heavy but hadn't thought of styrofoam. Thanks again. I'm excited about doing this. ![]()
