My friend requested a cake that tastes like a Starburst (the alcoholic drink). It's orange juice, strawberry schnapps and peach schnapps. I was planning to make an orange cream cake (mix) with strawberry preserves filling, but not sure how to incorporate the peach flavor. Can't do it in the bc, because it's just one of a stacked two tier cake, other flavor is chocolate cake with homemade caramel. Opinions? Will this even taste good??

the only thing i can think of is mix the strawberry preserves with peach reserves and see how it tastes. or layer the two preserves very thinly.

I don't know how many cakes you use, but I always bake 2 cakes to make one cake, torte both and stack them, so it's like 4 cakes with 3 fillings. You could MAYBE make one orange and one strawberry cake and alternate them with a peach filling for all of them. OR mix strawberry and peach preserves for the filling.

Maybe use lorann oils for the peach and strawberry flavors and just include those in the cake?? Not sure how this would taste icon_confused.gif ....maybe do a small practice one first to test it out...HTH.

I'm thinking... could take a while icon_rolleyes.gif

I'll have 4 layers of cake - do 2 layers strawberry filling, middle one peach? Or one strawberry, one peach, and bc for the middle? Never made an orange cake before, but I mentioned a Bailey's cake and she ran with it and came up with this.

What about peach jello mix baked into the cake instead of pudding mix? Any other ideas?

icon_cry.gif No orange cake mix available tonight!

What I tried was taking a Classic White, and substituting Orange Peach Mango juice for the water. Doing a sample cake tonight with strawberry jam, have to see how it turns out. Not too hopeful, doesn't smell orang-y and the batter didn't have much taste. I added a touch of lemon yellow and pink coloring to the cake, swirled good but just marbled, so it LOOKS right, but I think I need to make a stronger flavor. No stores close, no time to drive with finals this week, need ideas from Walmart or preferrably home ingredients!

what about flavoring a simple syrup with the peach (or orange) flavor? You could add that to your cake that you already baked.

No idea if it would taste good . . . it sounds like a lot of competing flavors, but then you said that it's already a drink so I guess the flavors do go well together.

I wish I had access to the flavorings! Seriously, Walmart is all we have for shopping, and that's 20 minutes away. It does need a bit more flavoring, though not a lot. Made the sample, did the layers with 2 jam and 1 bc for filling. It tasted great, but the flavor was not quite strong enough in the cake. It was a bit more dry than I would like, and crumbled too easily for transporting 3 hrs.

I am using a mix, substituted the juice for water. The batter was a little thicker than normal. What about substituting some frozen oj concentrate? It was 1 1/3 c water, maybe 2/3 c juice and 2/3 cup concentrate? I'm not using an extender at this point, or pudding. Can I add one of the little cups of peach yogurt and one extra egg white? Will that help any? Does the mix and juice just need more water, so it's as thin as normal? HELP!

I don't know how this would work. But at wal-mart I have seent he cakes they have done with orange crush You know the soda. Anyway what about doing the cake mix cake that you use the soda in place of the eggs, oil, and water. I don't know how the flavor would be. And isn't there a strawberry flavored soda also that you could use?? And maybe the peach for the filling. What do you think?? Do you understand the recipe I am talking about??

Here is another thought. There was another thread about perserving fresh fruit with alchol. Maybe you could check it out. You could even use frozen fruit. Say the strawberrys and the peaches with the schnapps. I don't know if you want it alchohlic or not?? With the orange cake.

Try adding orange flavored gelatin or orange extract to the cake mix batter to get more of an orange flavor and color. You could also make a syrup to pour over the cakes using orange liquer or peach schnapps.

How about orange Kool-aid? WalMart would have that. Even orange Kool-aid in one cake and strawberry Kool-aid in another. You could use the unsweetened version, which woud probably be less likey to change the consistency of the cake.

You could add orange orange zest, too.

Good ideas, thanks! The sample cake, even with the light flavors, is almost GONE and I only had one piece. It's going over good, at least! Dd is the only one who doesnt like it so far.

I've used a can of Orange Crush before in a cake, in place of the oil. It comes out fine, very moist. And it's a great orange color.
Hope this helps.

Orange crush - soda flavor, or oj flavor? I need a juice flavor, if I can get it.

I use the soda flavor but in the cake, it just gives it a nice orange flavor. I bet you could use some HI-C orange drink, that's pretty strong. Or even some OJ concentrate would work. Sorry I'm not more help. Good luck! It sounds like a great cake.
