ok, so sjbeatty8 used transparency paper for her double birthday cake and it turned out really cute
My question is... I don't have any transparency paper and was wondering if I could print pictures off on picture paper and adhere it to a fondant covered cake with a little piping gel then peel them off when ready to serve. The pictures will have a fondant backing for a border. This cake is for personal use but is this ok?
Thanks for your help
You can make color transparencies at FedEx Kinko's or you can also go to your local grocery store and ask for it on an icing transfer sheet. My local grocery stores usually charge 10$ per sheet. It is safer that using a real photo or color copy because nothing that is non-edible will get wet and possible bleed into the icing.
You can also print it on photo paper and laminate it. Then the icing won't soak into it.
I had to that once for some cupcakes I did. The young lady wanted me to do a theme with coaling mining, her father is a coal miner and it was for his birthday. I knew they would not be eating the fondant peices...and I may sure (more then a few times) that I told them the coal miner head peices were made from paper on fondant.
I don't have a edible printer and my nearest Wal-Mart is an hour away. So I did them with my printer. If you know for sure that it will be removed and no one will try to eat it, then I don't see why you couldn't.
Here is the link to the cupcakes in my photos if you would like to see it, and in a reply to a comment, I tell how I did it.
